My name is Jo Ball and I am a licensed Firework Career Coach, have an MA in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy and am a mother of two lively, utterly unique children.

My four-year MA Psychotherapy training at IATE specialised in using the arts and creativity to help people live richer and more fulfilling lives and this creative approach runs through all my programmes as a Licensed Firework Coach.

I became interested in coaching when l was looking for a new direction after having my children and I was so impressed by the positive impact that I embarked on becoming a career and life coach.

I was particularly attracted to the Firework approach because of the rigorous research and emphasis on working with the whole person. I also like the premise that we are all creative, resourceful and whole given the right circumstances. I have certainly found this to be true with the people I’ve worked with.

Whilst coaching is certainly not therapy, my ten years of working as a therapist informs my career and life coaching practice in the following ways:

  • ability to listen in depth to what is needed
  • understanding of a whole range of issues people face in their lives
  • experience of helping people identify sabotaging beliefs and patterns
  • understanding of the importance of a place to be really honest with yourself
  • experience of working with people creatively to help them live more authentically
  • ability to find the right balance between challenge and support

I have over 15 years experience of working with adults, young people and children in a range of roles including as a therapist, telephone counsellor, counselling supervisor, relationships skills trainer and more recently as a coach. This has given me insight into working in a variety of settings including education, Sure Start, Connexions, the voluntary sector and setting up my own business in private practice.

Writing has always been a part of my life and a way of making sense of my world.  The page or screen is also a place where I play and free fall knowing that it offers a great safety net.  At the moment I am writing poetry and working very slowly on a collection of poems about the inner landscape of motherhood.
