Is coaching for mothers for me?

After becoming a mother, you can struggle to find time to connect with who you are now. You may feel different – your old sense of self has ‘burnt-out’, but you are too busy doing to think about you and your place in the world, leaving you feeling over-stretched and off balance. This can happen when you have a new baby or it may occur much later in your parenting journey or if you face extra challenges in your parenting journey. It can be hard dealing with the confusing and often conflicting thoughts and feelings that motherhood provokes. As mothers we are forced to bump up against our own vulnerabilities and raw spots on a daily basis, (often in public and when we are sleep deprived).

Whilst there is a lot of talk about parenting, working mothers and full-time at home mothers, we don’t often get the chance to talk about how we’re truly feeling, or admit that life as a parent can at times lose its joy. The type of parent you intend to be is not who you have become, as you find yourself over-stretched, guilty and on an emotional roller coaster.

As a busy mum, the last thing you need is another ‘to do list’. Instead, both the Personal, Creative 1-1 Coaching programme and the Creative Writing meets Life Coaching for Mothers group offer you the opportunity to listen deeply to what you need in order to reconnect with yourself and forge your new identity in the world. To help you take the first step contact me or read on to find out more.

Areas that you may like to work on could include:

Replenishment: carve out the time and space for yourself to do something that supports and nourishes you

Identity: find what truly matters to you now, what gives life meaning and makes your heart sing

Wholehearted living: discover your big ‘Yes’ to life and how to practice and sustain this

Work: clarify your new values and priorities, what you have to offer and what work now fits you best

Creativity: permission to play, experiment, get messy, make mistakes, ask questions of life and invent the answers

I find coaching with Jo to be a fantastic experience. I love it because it is positive, forward focused, with a personalized goal in mind. It goes without saying that it is totally non-judgmental and each session flows in the direction dictated by the individual. It is a truly unique, creative and holistic experience.

How can Coaching for Mothers help?

As a mother you are asked to give so much of yourself every day, both physically and emotionally.  You are also called on to make decisions constantly that impact the direction of someone else’s life as well as your own.  Decisions about work, childcare, schooling, what everyone eats, looks at, and wears, along with the other thousand and one details of daily life that require your energy.

Jo has been a real support and her Life Coaching sessions have been inspirational in ways I could not have imagined.

These parenting responsibilities demand constant attention, energy and vigilance, and can sometimes feel overwhelming. It’s easy to end up feeling depleted, exhausted and full of self-doubt. In the midst of this, and with your old sense of self eroded, it can feel hard to know how you feel about things and what is important to you now if you were given the chance to be centre-stage. You need to re-establish who you are, because you know if you don’t you are depriving both you and your child of the richest resource you can offer – you.

You may have tried various things to reconnect with yourself. You know you can’t go back to your old self, but you don’t have the time or space in your normal day to even begin to take stock of what this change means to you. You have an inkling it could be a positive change, a call to grow further into yourself, but you are not sure how.

It feels like it is time to drop anchor, steady yourself and re-plot your own course.

Whilst it can feel hard to give yourself the permission, you know that time nourishing and re-charging yourself will benefit everyone. The Creative Life Coaching for Mothers Programme will help you identify how this is possible in your life. You will also set up ways to hold yourself accountable so that you practice re-connecting and re-charging rather than just wish you did.

If you are in Devon and also want the support of a group of mothers, the Creative Writing meets Life Coaching for Mothers group compliments the 1-1 coaching. Or, you may wish to attend the group without doing 1-1 coaching.

What you are doing day-to-day is big work, even if it doesn’t get a fanfare, and you deserve a pit-stop team to support you so that you’re not running on empty. It’s a relief when you can find a way back to yourself and can be honest about how things really are, where this honesty isn’t just tolerated but is genuinely valued and you aren’t compared to some crazy ideal that none of us measures up to. From this place we explore what is genuinely important to you, your values, passions and purpose, and how to live more in line with these.

If it is time for you to think about work, or returning to the way you used to work, you may want to do things differently but aren’t sure of how this could be possible. For your phoenix-like resurrection you need the time and space to replenish yourself and re-discover what really matters to you. Creative Life Coaching for Mothers enables you to do this, devising a personalised programme for you that is both creative and enjoyable.

I know it can be hard to prioritise yourself. If you have an inkling this may be for you, please do contact me and I’d love to fix a time to talk to you.
